The American comedian, actor and producer, has become one of the most prominent faces of the modern comedy era. Despite his growing fame, Arnett has remained consistently humble.
He told an interviewer in 2007 that he doesn’t want to be famous because “I don’t want to live my whole life thinking I’m famous. I want to wake up every day and say ‘I didn’t do anything today!’”
Arnett was born in Augusta , Georgia , to a white mother and a black father. His father was a lawyer who later became the state’s attorney for Murray County . While Arnett was growing up in Augusta, he attended several schools including Augusta High School . Before attending college, Arnett worked as both a jockey and a mechanic at local racing tracks.
Arnett’s first acting job was as an extra in the film The Big Green (1980), starring Steve Martin and Robin Williams . When he graduated from high school, Arnett decided to pursue a career in acting full-time rather than taking college classes. He also worked as a mechanic on race cars during summers at Talladega Superspeedway .
Arnett made his first appearance on television at age 17 playing a minor role in an episode of “The Waltons” entitled “A Call To Arms” (1969). He made his first major television appearance in 1972 when he appeared on “The Dick Van Dyke Show”.
In 1974 he co-starred with comedian Robin Williams in the NBC sitcom “Happy Days”. Arnetts next TV project was produced by Walt Disney Productions , where he starred alongside Elizabeth Taylor and James Garner as Dan Castellaneta/Superman/Mxyzptlk . The series ran for one season. In 1975, Arnett hosted Saturday Night Live with John Belushi and Drew Carey from 1976 until 1982. His First Movie Role

So it was that Arnett’s childhood quickly turned into a crusade to prove that he could be great at something other than medicine. But where did it start?
Back in the early nineties, Arnett was working on a pilot for a sitcom called “John and Jennie,” about two middle-aged men with different religions and conflict issues. He needed an actor he could relate to.
Arnett got an audition but only as a voice-over recording of himself reading lines from the script that day. But because he had been doing voice-overs for years, they were impressed by his performance and gave him an option on doing a live show to perform his lines with more energy and enthusiasm than they had seen before.
Arnett took them up on their offer and went out onto stage with an energetic performance of himself reading lines from the script he had written (for the pilot), which earned him his first television series role in one of the most popular shows ever: “Arrested Development” (2003).
He has since done many other shows including “The Goldbergs,” “The Mindy Project,” “Portlandia” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” He is also planning to follow up his Emmy Award winning portrayal of Tobias Fünke on Amazon Prime with another comedy series called “Mr. Pickles”.
